Our History

Financial Resources Federal Credit Union, formerly the Ethicon Employees Federal Credit Union and the Raritan Federal Credit Union, is a federally chartered credit union that was formed over 75 years ago.  The Credit Union offers complete financial solutions to its members, anyone who lives, works, goes to school or worships in the communities of Flemington and the greater New Brunswick/Somerset area, and business services for its member companies and organizations.  Financial Resources is regulated by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA ), and savings are federally insured to at least $250,000 and backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government.  The Credit Union is headquartered in Bridgewater, NJ.

U.S. Membership is open to employees, retirees, associates, and their family and household members of almost any company or organization who would like to become a member of Financial Resources Federal Credit Union.  Financial Resources has almost 25,000 members and total assets of over $300 million.

Financial Resources has a nine-member volunteer Board of Directors elected by the membership. The Board of Directors retains a President & Chief Executive Officer, Lena Matthews, to oversee the daily operations.  An independent CPA auditing firm as well as the NCUA conduct annual reviews of Financial Resources.

Credit Union Milestones

April 17, 1950 – Ethicon Employees Federal Credit Union, was granted a charter on April 17, 1950, and was initially formed by the employees of Ethicon Suture Laboratories of Johnson and Johnson Corporation in New Brunswick, NJ.

October 1, 1998 – McNeil-Ortho Federal Credit Union was merged into Ethicon Employees Federal Credit Union, and included all the Johnson & Johnson employee groups served by McNeil-Ortho FCU.

January 11, 1999 – Raritan Federal Credit Union, the oldest State of New Jersey chartered credit union founded in 1933, was merged into Ethicon Employees Federal Credit Union, and included all the Johnson & Johnson employee groups served by Raritan Federal Credit Union.

May 1, 2000 – Ethicon Employees Federal Credit Union changed its name to Financial Resources Federal Credit Union.

February 11, 2003 – Converted to a “Multiple Common Bond Charter” to allow Financial Resources to seek other companies and organizations outside of the Johnson and Johnson family of companies into the Credit Union’s field-of-membership.

June 27, 2003 – The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) grants permission to Financial Resources to serve persons who live, work (or regularly conduct business in), worship, or attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities in the underserved areas of New Brunswick, Highland Park, and portions of Somerset, NJ known by the Credit Union as the “Greater New Brunswick Area.”  Financial Resources establishes a community branch office in downtown New Brunswick, which is subsequently moved to Somerset, NJ in May 2006.

March 29, 2007 – The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) grants permission to Financial Resources to serve persons who live, work (or regularly conduct business in), worship, or attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities in Flemington Borough (Hunterdon County), New Jersey.  Financial Resources establishes a community branch office in Flemington Borough in May 2007.
