Financial Resources raises $15,000 for Somerset Medical Center Foundation and $2,200 for Shannon Daley Memorial Fund

Bridgewater, NJ – Financial Resources FCU Foundation announced that its annual charity event held this year on Monday, May 10, 2010 at The Palace at Somerset Park raised over $17,000 to benefit Somerset Medical Center Foundation and The Shannon Daley Memorial Fund.

Somerset Medical Center (http://www.somersetmedicalcenter.com) is a nationally accredited, 355-bed regional medical center that provides comprehensive emergency, medical/surgical and rehabilitative services to Central New Jersey residents. As the only hospital in Somerset County, Somerset Medical Center touches people of all ages and backgrounds and each year delivers 1,500 newborns to families in our community.

At the request of the Somerset Medical Center Nursing staff, the $15,000 donation to the Medical Center will be used to purchase a new incubator (also called an isolette) for SMC’s Special Care Nursery. A baby, especially a premature baby, who cannot maintain body heat, can be protected from drafts and cold while the incubator offers continuous monitoring of both central and peripheral body temperature for the baby. By monitoring both temperatures, caregivers are better able to anticipate the changing needs of the baby.

The evening’s silent auction proceeds of $2,200 went to Shannon Daley Memorial Fund (http://www.shannonfund.org/). The Fund helps local area residents (within a 30-mile radius of Readington Township, NJ) who are facing financial difficulties due to a child facing serious illness.

Sponsoring the event were Diebold, Inc., of North Canton, OH, and James Toyota Kia, of Flemington, NJ.

Financial Resources FCU Foundation, who organizes charitable events for Financial Resources Federal Credit Union, hosted the charity event. Lena Matthews, President & CEO of the Credit Union and Chairman of the Foundation said, "We were extremely pleased with the support for and turnout at this year's event. We could not have done it without the help from our sponsors and guests."

Matthews added, "I also want to extend special gratitude to Diebold and James Toyota Kia of Flemington for once again graciously and generously supporting our event this year. Everyone's generous response will help Somerset Medical Center forward their mission of providing comprehensive health care of the highest quality to our community and The Shannon Daley Fund’s efforts to support area families in need.

Over the last 18 years, the Credit Union and Foundation have raised over $400,000 to benefit charities and medical institutions that provide services to needy children.

Financial Resources Federal Credit Union’s "Jeans Day Friday" program provides $6,564 in charitable contributions

Bridgewater, NJ – Borrowing an approach to "Casual Fridays," Financial Resources Federal Credit Union established "Jeans Day Friday" in 2005 whereby twice each month, Credit Union employees are permitted to wear jeans by contributing at least $5.00 to a fund maintained by the Credit Union’s Foundation, Financial Resources FCU Foundation, Inc., for the benefit of local charitable organizations.  A committee representing the Credit Union’s employees names the recipients of those proceeds.  With more than 50 employees at the Bridgewater location, this opportunity for a relaxed day at work builds a significant pool of funds over the course of a year to support the charities.  Since 2005, the program has raised over $20,000.

On March 24, 2010, the Board of Trustees of Financial Resources FCU Foundation, Inc. affirmed the organizations named as the recipients of the Credit Union’s "Jeans Day Friday" program and the amount dedicated to each organization by credit union employees from the funds raised in 2009.  The amounts contributed to each organization, including a special drive to raise funds for the Haiti Relief Fund, also include a 100% match made by the Credit Union and totaled $6,564.

Lena Matthews, President & CEO of the Credit Union and Chairman of the Foundation expressed gratitude for the support shown by the Credit Union’s employees, "On behalf of the employees of Financial Resources FCU, we are delighted to support these organizations."

Financial Resources distributed the funds evenly to four local charities and through a special allocation to the Haiti Relief Fund as a result of their Jeans Day program.

St. Peter’s University Hospital Child Life Program  $    1,280.50
Resource Center of Somerset (formerly known as The Resource Center for Women and Families)  $    1,280.50
The Midland School  $    1,280.50
Samaritan Homeless Interim Program (S.H.I.P.)  $    1,280.50
Haiti Relief Fund  $    1,442.00
Total amount for named organizations from Jeans Day:  $    6,564.00

Financial Resources Serves Up Support for Local Food Banks and CASA SHaW

Bridgewater, NJ –

Once again, Financial Resources FCU, has stepped up to help those in need this holiday season.

In their continued efforts to support and give back to the communities that they serve, Financial Resources FCU, headquartered in Bridgewater, NJ, donated $2,200 worth of food and essentials to four area food banks and also assisted Court Appointed Special Advocates of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties, (CASA SHaW) (http://www.casashaw.org) a very special organization which helps locally abused and neglected children.

The food bank effort all started when Credit Union employees offered to volunteer their time at the Somerset County Food Bank. It was then that they learned that the requests for food were twice as many as they were last year. In response to this urgent need,  a team of Financial Resources employees ordered, sorted and personally delivered grocery items and essentials to each of four area food banks including The Franklin Township Food Bank, www.franklinfoodbank.org/, The Food Bank Network of Somerset County, www.somersetfoodbank.org/, The Flemington Area Food Pantry, http://flemafp.com/, and the Hillsborough Food Pantry (phone: 908-369-3880).

"One of our strategic priorities is to be an active and supportive partner in the communities we serve," said Lena Matthews, President and CEO of Financial Resources FCU, "But we’re also committed to improving the quality of life in our branch communities, which is why we’ve partnered again with CASA SHaW to help support the wonderful work that they do."

For the second consecutive holiday season, Financial Resources supported CASA SHaW by sponsoring 40 children during the holidays. Each of the children submitted a holiday wish list to Financial Resources employees and members of the credit union’s Board of Directors, who then enjoyed shopping and wrapping the gifts for the children. Some sponsored as many as three children.  In addition to the child sponsorships each of the last two years, CASA SHaW was also the beneficiary at Financial Resources Foundation’s main charity event in the spring of 2007.

This generous response by Financial Resources FCU underscores their continuing support of the food banks in Somerset and Hunterdon Counties (NJ), CASA SHaW, and the communities that they serve.  Please join Financial Resources FCU in supporting these critically important local organizations and making the New Year brighter for those in need.
